MALE, Mar 07: The Maldives government is distributing an allowance of Rf2,000, to people with disabilities.
Deputy Health Minister Fathimath Afiya said a large number of people applied in the application period and the ministry is providing the allowance to those eligible, who submitted their applications before December 2010.
“We determined the authenticity of the information provided in the applications and are distributing the allowance of January and February to some 86 in the first round and about 100 in the second round,” she said.
Afiya stressed that the ministry has received some 4,000 application forms, but is facing some difficulties in approving the applications as some of them lack important information such as medical certificates.
“Some of the applications have been declared authentic and are ready. The allowance will be arranged for them soon,” she said.
The registration form should be submitted to the Department of Family and Protection Services at the ministry. The allowance will be deposited in the bank accounts of those registered at the department before the tenth of every month.
A Disability Council has also been created in order to protect the rights of disabled people.
