Indian Blind Cricket Team to Tour Pakistan in November | Print |

Bangalore, Oct 20: The Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI) in collaboration with the Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled held a press conference to announce the Indian Blind Cricket Team’s tour of Pakistan.


Addressing the media at Bangalore Press Club G.K. Mahantesh, General Secretary elaborated the role CABI a registered non – profit organisation is playing to develop cricket for blind people across the country. He said, the previous parent body running blind cricket had passed on the responsibilities to Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled that was hitherto playing a very active coordinating role in organising blind cricket in the South Zone.

As Samarthanam’s sports initiative, a separate body, CABI was floated. Answering a query, he said efforts are on to get affiliation from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He was optimistic about a positive response from them very soon. He cited how the successive central and the state government along with the Public Sector Units along with several corporate houses have been extending event-based support.

S.P.Nagesh, President CABI briefed the plans of holding first ever T – 20 World Cup Cricket for Blind people in Bangalore in December 2012. He urged media to highlight blind cricket that will lead to enhance awareness, support base and attract sponsorships.


The team to travel to Pakistan was also announced to the press and will be lead by Sekhar Naik Lachma of Karnataka and consists of players from across the country based on their performances in the recently concluded National tournament held at Mysore.
